    Hey,

I'm looking into flights for Cambodia for next year. This may be premature as I'm looking at late Nov/Dec. Perhaps that's why I'm not getting results on some sites, BA, Emirates, Singapore, etc.

This would be flying into Phnom Penh and returning from Siem Reap. Has anyone experience of flying out there via Dublin? Did you book directly with an airline, or a third party site?

If good fares don't emerge, one option is to get a good fare to Bangkok and Bangkok airways fly both to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. When I was there I also flew between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.

Just back from Cambodia last week.

I booked flights last August and at the time the cheapest was with Etihad to Kuala Lumpur return and then Malaysia Airlines to Phnom Penh. I returned to KL from Siem Reap.

MAS only worked out about €20 more than with Air Asia and included food, drink and allocated seating.

I spent a few days in KL going out and returning so I wasn't too worried about not having connecting flights.

Thanks both. :) I've done a little scouting around and flights seem to be around €780. I don't know if that's good as I've not been out this direction before. It's been tricky to find flights in general, though. I checked Emirates and Etihad without much success for dates or fares. The 780 fare above was through ebookers.ie. Dublin - Amsterdam (Aer Lingus) - Phnom Penh (Malaysia Airlines). Siem Reap - home/Dublin, again combining Malaysia and Aer Lingus. I'd prefer to book directly than with ebookers.

We have just booked direct flights to Bangkok for 560 with quantas via sky scanner.from Bangkok you can fly to siem reap for 50 euro. Flights to Phnom Penh are just as cheap but could be cause we are going in September.

Interesting. Can you do something like that and have your bag checked all the way through, booking one leg independently, then Bangkok onwards. I presume not.

I just tried Emirates to Bangkok, then PNH. 1200 quid...that's without any return leg. Searching DUB to PNH, then Siem Reap to DUB return leads to this
Sorry, we are unable to provide flight options for your specified destination and/or dates. Please re-try with the Search by Price option, if available. If this search option is not given, or you require further assistance with completing a booking, please contact your local Emirates office.

    Ethiad says something similar.
    Warning
No Flights Available Sorry, there are no flights available for your selected dates. Please choose an alternate date.

What date you going out and what date you returning? What you do is book the full Bangkok return flight. Then book separate where you need to recheck a bag Bangkok to phnom penh

It would be something like Nov 20th from Dublin to PNH, return Dec 6th from REP. It's with a view to doing a trip like this with Red Spokes.

Are you going to from Ireland to Bangkok, if so, what's your connection there?

Maybe it's best to look for separate flights, then.

You won't get cheap flights all the way to Cambodia. Your best bet is to book flights to either Bangkok or KL and then separately to Cambodia. Use Kayak or Skyscanner to research prices, it'll allow you to search multiple airlines with flexible dates. You can always book directly with the airline afterwards.

For example, your dates are showing at €588 return with a combination of Aer Lingus and China Airlines through Amsterdam or €599 travelling out a day earlier with Qantas (it's actually Emirates flights operated by Qantas).

You could spend a night in Bangkok and continue next day.

So we are flying via Abu dhbi with quantas to Bangkok. We are staying a night to recoup and then fly to siem reap the next day. So book separately. Sky scan the dub to Bangkok park. I'm goin during September so flights are always cheaper I believe.

Using http://www.itasoftware.com/ it's coming up at €679 with Malaysia, couple of stops and not exactly on the dates you want, but your bags would be checked all the way through.

Thanks, everyone. I'll put the flights situation to one side until I can book time off work.

I believe you need a visa for here and vaccines, too. Anything else I should be aware of? :)

We went to Siem Reap and got our visas at the airport. Very easy process. You will need USD cash, but there is a helpful ATM there if you don't have it handy.

Cambodian currency is a restricted currency so can only buy it once you are there. To be honest I wouldn't bother with it. Everyone accepts USD. Then have your credit card just in case.

Rule of thumb, nearly everywhere in that region requires vaccines. Go to a Tropical Medical Bureau at least a month beforehand and they will advise.
