    Hi all,

Myself and my GF are making a trip to the infamous Amsterdam. We booked our flights to Eindhoven as it works out much cheaper but would anyone know what the best way would be to travel from Eindhoven to Amsterdam? Bus or train?

    Thank you all :)

Currently looking at that now. Im guessing that would be the best way then rather than train? We are arriving quite late at 5:30 so same as everyone else, would like to get to Amsterdam as soon as possible

Sorry and also, do you know If we can buy our tickets when we arrive? We arrive at 5:30 and next bus is at 6 so maybe a bit tight if we book online...

Get the train. You get into Centraal Station. When are you going? Stay a little out of the tourist area. Jordaan (on the left as you walk out of Centraal) is a nice neighbourhood.

yes you can buy tickets when you arrive its around 40 return each theres a little sort of information desk which sells tickets in the main concourse area, its a small enough airport so you should find it easy enough,if I remember correctly theres a 6pm departure which ties in quite nicely with the arriving flight,I got it myself back in september

I found the train a bit awkward tbh because you have to get the bus first to get to the train station and thew cost was about the same

The bus from the airport is definitely the way to go, dropped off in the centre of Amsterdam and straight back to the airport on your day of departure.

Agreed on the Jordaan - though it's to your right as you exit Centraal Station :pac:

Theres a train every 30 minutes and a bus every 15 minutes, its only 12 minutes to Eindhoven station.

The bus goes on the A2 (Motorway), which can be a car park if you go at the wrong time. :pac:

IMO its a bit expensive if you do not live here or have an OV-Chipkaart.

The bus for me is only 1.20, if you buy a ticket at the Airport its 3 euros, then the train is 40% off outside rush hour as well.

We are arriving in Amsertdam at 5:30PM on a Friday. Im guessing this would be a bad time to g a bus from Eindhoven to Amsterdam?

Jordaan is on your right as you walk out from central station but, yes.

Also, staying on one of the bigger outlying canals is nice. Herenrgracht or Prinsengracht.

    Also, do get the train.

As keithclancy mentioned, think we are gonna get the train instead as we are arriving at rush hour so could be hassle getting to Amsterdam by bus.

Does anyone know, once we arrive at the Eindhoven airport, can we buy all tickets (bus from airport -> train station & train station -> Amsterdam) at the airport? Or does it all have to be done online? Thanks again lads.

A false economy really getting the plane to eindhoven. You are paying more for additional transport and losing hours of your holiday.

The price for flights at the time were 70e to Eindhovin where directly to Amsterdam where 200+ each which was the main reason we decided for Eindhovin instead. But 100% agree on losing hours on the holiday though.

Well that is assuming you are going to Amsterdam ;) but even then Aer Lingus to Amsterdam from Dublin/Cork can be twice the price of Ryanair from Dublin to Amsterdam including the train and bus.

Also the public transport in the Netherlands is excellent, with trains possible to Amsterdam Central every 45 minutes from Eindhoven and the bus goes every 10/15 minutes depending on the day, there's also an express bus from the station to the Airport.

You can buy a ticket online from NS (Dutch Rail) Including the bus from the Airport online:

    https://www.ns.nl/eticket/ticket?language=en

"Airport Eindhoven terugreis" terugreis means return, costs 22,30 :)

By the way, Aer Lingus have their January sale on at the moment so maybe its worth it to check the prices again !

Great thanks so much Keith. One last question and I'll stop pestering you :) Are the e-tickets available for any time during the day? I am just worried if we get delayed etc and miss our train.

Yip... valid for the day, not for a particular train.

I've done the trip by train a few times, worked out fine. Quick bus into the train station then onto the train and straight to Amsterdam. The trains are regular, fast and reliable and as mentioned already you can buy tickets beforehand or at the machine or office in the station itself.
