    It depends on the circumstances.
If they have been found to be working full time and claiming the dole, then most likely all of the persons benefits will be stopped. The S.W. will probably want all benefits claimed during the working period to be repaid. And if the person was not paying taxes, then they, and their employer, could find themselves in trouble with the Revenue for unpaid taxes.
Thats just for starters, then there is the possibility of being prosecuted for fraudulent claiming, which in turn can carry fines and / or imprisonment.

The DSP will deduct a percentage from your social welfare claim per week, it could be anywhere between €2 and €5 per week. If it was for 6 months to a year then you have problems.

The social welfare crowd are ruthless with stuff like this. Lets say your claiming the dole for 2 years. You get a job a month ago and don't sign off. They automatically assume that you've been working the full 2 years and want all their money back for 2 years.

People have been jailed for it.

Also the welfare department monitor all social media and places like boards. A section 8 request from the department and boards would be compelled to hand over your info.

The DSP have recently employed a group of specialised Gardai to deal with social welfare fraud, but this is for hard-core fraudsters, but they will deduct said owed monies that you owe for claiming when you were not entitled to it. If it was for a short time they will take it back from you, or they could have you in court very quickly as was said.

You might want to have a chat with them sooner than later.

That's no way to be going on.
Especially since from your posting history I see amongst your employment avenues were solicitor and Garda.

Funnily enough the data protection act doesn't protect a person even on a member web-site like Boards. If in doubt, never shout, it could even be a politicians worst nightmare.

    Now where was I

I think you could have explained to SW that you were in education, and availed of any supports you were entitled to. And not scammed the rest of us.

They do. Also, other users of sites such as this can simply fill out an anonymous form here: https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/secure/ReportFraud.aspx

... linking this thread. A section 8 might even follow.

Edit: Jeez, OP. For a fraudster, you really haven't been very circumspect in your posting on this site. So, NQ solicitor, studied for a postgrad in UL, within the last five months. You've made a potential investigation fairly simple for whichever inspector may carry it out!

Also, how might a conviction for fraud potentially affect your future career in law? Would you have one at all?

All the DSP would have to do is go 'pro merge with sky tv' with their hidden cameras and microphones installed in their digi-boxes and they would have everyone stat.

Don't blame me for this new technology, blame the moons gravitational pull.

Actually that's incorrect they can legally take up to 15% from your weekly payments till every thing is repaid

Maybe I over exaggerated the situation with the thread title but I just panicked when I got the phone call. There was just a couple of months of a grey area but I rang this morning and I have nothing to worry about
