Unless you have a dry shed that isn't damp I wouldn't bother. Tbh now is a terrible time of the year to be doing it. I'd wait until the weather improves and the temperatures pick up before doing it, which will probably be April/May next year. For now I'd just stick a hose under it every now and then to rinse the grit and road salt off. I'd clean the wheel arches well too every so often.

That's what I do every week or so. I use something like below and wash under the arches (including behind the lip), sills, floor pans, suspension arms & uprights and front cross-members. It only takes a few minutes but you'll get a few looks from your neighbours for "washing the car and it's still dirty" and for "washing it in the dark".

Modern cars are better sealed that older ones. I wash the vintage car that way every time it has been out and salt has been spread on the road.

Unless we get a northerly wind for a couple of days to dry out the air I would wait untill next year

Waxoyl is probably one of the better ones. The Brush-on type is easiest/cheapest compared to the spray-on version (although it is fairly thick so needs to be left in hot water to thin it).
You will be cursed by anybody who has to work on the underside of your car afterwards though.....it's very messy and never quite dries, so it will always be a bit gooey and sticky.
TBH if the car is relatively new (newer than 15 years or so) it is probably a waste of time as it should be fairly well galvanised and if there is any rust you will only be covering it over and allowing it to spread unseen.

ah its a 97 jap import :) dont think its ever been sealed before not sure :) have access to ramps in an enclosed garage so was thinking of going doing it the weekend and giving it a good 3-4 days to dry out :) is there any parts you should AVOID putting waxoyl on underneath ? :)

It won't dry properly at this time of year, and instead you'll just trap dampness in and cause more problems.

Wait until the summer and do it :)

yeah one more winter wont hurt it :) il just do like @ianobrien said and powerwash the underside every week or so till march-april :) would it not dry out in an enclosed garage though if left for a few days ?

It would be worse to leave it in a garage to dry tbh, it will take a lot longer than being out in the open air.

Also While the underbody might look good and dry the seams will have moisture in them. These will have to be dry before any undersealing takes place as all the underseal will do is cover the seams and seal in this moisture. It won't be able to reach far enough into the seams to displace this moisture.
