Our Wii u gamepad charger just stopped working and having trouble getting a replacement in time for Xmas, have gotten my son some games for Xmas and without charger won't be able to play :( appreciate any advice on best place to get one at reasonable price and saw unofficial ones on Amazon, do they work or best to order original from Nintendo, also concerned if it's not the charger that's faulty and the actual gamepad connection, just any advice welcome as my son so looking forward to MK8!

I have the exact same problem. I mentioned it in one of the other threads a couple of months ago. And I bet I know where your problem is. It's right at the neck of the lead where you plug it into the gamepad. It may not be completely dead.

If you plug it into the gamepad and adjust it right where the thin wire joins the neck of the adapter at the end that plugs into the gamepad, see if the red light comes on on the gamepad. If you get it just right to come on and then wrap insulation tape around it to keep it from budging. It's not a permanent solution but it could help for a while. Also, plug it into the charging stand not the gamepad. The lead hanging down from the gamepad and little tugs over time have loosened the connection. I said before it wasn't designed very well. They should have made a more durable cable. The problem is the battery life is so bad on the gamepad that it's unavoidable and necessary a lot of times to have the charging cable in the gamepad.

@cloud493 I need the lead as well. I could pay for postage or meet you in Dublin one of the days?

I only have one I'm afraid. Pick up or meet would be ideal.

I do still have it, found it in the draw where I keep all the crap I don't know where else to put it :P

I have unofficial one from eBay and it works just fine. Really annoys me though that Nintendo can't go universal on their chargers. It's beyond me.

if it's not urgent, go around to chinese websites or ebay.

If you're scared of them being dodgy, get a usb one.

Thanks for the replies, tried everything still not working, rang Nintendo and said its terrible we can't buy official charger in a game shop and could easily ruin someone's Xmas if they had Wii u games and not be able to play them, he said he'd say it to his boss! On a side note it's cool though they have Saria's song when they put you on hold!

    Mine just died... :(
Charged this morning, I played one MK Grand Prix and red light came on. Plugged charger into pad, nothing....

Is this a nintendo problem? I'm 100% positive my lead wasn't pulled/yanked/dropped or anything else that could cause a problem.

Anyway, off to try and find a replacement. Don't want to risk getting an official in case it's an issue :( .

Yep, seems to be a well known problem. Pity I hadn't seen anything about it before, I would have bought a back up. Now I'm going to be without wii u for most of the week.. :(.

Crud, and I wanted to buy Trine Enchanted Edition in the sale.

    Well documented issue:

Does anybody have any suggestions which charger to get?
People that have bought one, is it still working?

THIS ONE seems to be the exact same as THIS ONE which is appearing on Chinese sites also.
My experience of Chinese Plugs/Chargers is that they are cheap, and while one may work, another may bang.
I've had plenty that went bang in the past, so I'd prefer to avoid that..

I haven't seen any chargers anywhere else...:(

    EDIT -

THIS? No power brick though.. - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ARMQ7VM/

This has good reviews - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fosmon-BLACK-Charging-Nintendo-GamePad/dp/B00EVAY6LE

Would a normal USB plug work with them?

I charged it once today, and never got around to buying a 3A yet, but I will tomorrow.
I'm speculating that the fuses in them aren't great, as there does seem to be a lot of people online saying theirs died too.
    I'm also hoping that's the case :)
Builders just left my house after months, and snag list just finished. I'd be seriously annoyed if there was something wrong with the electrics..
I'd also be a little depressed, I've had workmen up to my gills. :)
