1.4 d van on doe at the moment.looking to put it through nct,is this possible.have private insurance and private tax

It doesn't matter what you are using it for, it's still a van, so it has to go for the DOE.

Yes, its still a commercial vehicle, albeit used and taxed in a private capacity.
Unfortunately you are going to have to pay a lot more for the DOE test than an NCT test.

Yeah you can test tax and insure it private,the tax could be a fair chunk higher private.

you can't put a van through the car test (clue in the name) .You can tax and insure it privately though
