Ive been battling depression for years, and yesterday on the advice of a staff member in my local intreo office I submitted a disability form.My gp listed my condition as severe,so the girl in intreo said its a given that my claim will be awarded.
My question is,how long do these claims,on average take to process, and also,is the changeover in payments between job seekers and long term illness benefit a smooth one?or will I go a few weeks withour payment?
    Thanks, harry.

It can literally take anything up to 12 months to get a successful claim for disability, depending on whether the application is refused and then awarded on appeal .
Most 1st time applicants seem to get a refusal at first attempt .

Thanks for the reply gatling, but as i mentioned, intreo have assured me that due to the nature and severity of my condition the claim will be approved. I'm just really stressed about being stuck without a payment for a few weeks

Been thought the process my application took 12 months that's with medical reports from consultants and various specialists covering 3 degenerative conditions,
Your payments should continue till your claim is processed if I'm correct .If your payment is delayed while it's been processed for any reason get straight to your local CWO they can pay you till your claim is sorted.

Been lots of posters in the last 12-18 months have had there first application denied it's just something to be mindful of it can be a stressful time .

Hi my son was awarded disability on the grounds of long term severe depression (dysthymia) and he was refused on the first application despite being told at the clinic and signing on office that he would be successful, he appealed and was then granted it.
He received normal payment up until receiving his disability payments.
It took over 6 months including the appeal.
But if you are refused put in an appeal straight away, and don't be disheartened.
