2005 Audi TT (MK1 Quattro Sport)

    As the title says, did any of these ever come into Ireland? Just happened to see one or two in the UK. Holding their value as they are rare enough there (800 or so in total) Nothing overly special about them but just wondering are there any on the road here.

    NB: I'm referring to the limited edition model, not the standard 1.8 Quattro.

    What is the haldecks system like in your opinion Lightening? That system is the thing that puts me off Audi 'Quattro' models. I'd much prefer a permanent 40/60 split like whats on the RS models.

    I've had 2 'haldex' cars (Vw Bora and Audi S3) and 2 torsen cars (2 TDI A4 quattro avants) - it's almost impossible to tell the difference on the open road in everyday driving, although i've never had a performance torsen based car where as the two haldex based cars were very much performance based.

    Both my haldex cars wore rear tyres quicker than fronts which puts to bed the mostly FWD rubbish that is often levelled against haldex, there has been a lot wrote and tested on this including guys taking readings directly from the haldex clutch pressure switch and it's on more than off.

    I prefer the drive and forget nature of torsen but would gladly have a haldex based car again.

    Amongst other changes the purpose of the rear seat delete was in fact weight reduction. The quattro Sport is 75kgs lighter than the 225. The boot size remains similar to the 225. They were also fitted with an uprated suspension setup.

    The thing is though, doing the figures on it, it would cost about €10k to import one and put it on the road here. You could take a stock Quattro, even the 3.2 is going for less than €4.5k now here, and Stage 3 / 4 it and have a beast of a car for less than that. Granted not as rare but depends what you are after. The 75kg is significant, but again you could do this in a standard car and probably drop even more weight if you were clever about it.

    I'm just toying with the idea of a secondary car to tinker with and the TT is one of the cheapest Quattro bases to start with, which I believe it shares with the S3 / R32? Alternative suggestions welcome!

    I had a 2.5 TDI V6 avant between the Bora and S3, just picked up a B5 1.9 AFN Quattro avant as a run around, so the VRT office were telling you porkies, the are rare though been looking for one for around 3 months both here and in the UK.

    They are too well built though to loose any large amount of weight. The newer ones have alot of aluminium and even they are heavy for what they are

    1.7 tonnes is crazy but they still dont half shift along and with the quattro feel glued down.
    The new one looks very dissapointing. Saw in the flesh last week and the SLK nearby looked alot better.
    The MK1 is a design icon. The quattro sport while a nice car isnt really any use. The standard 225 is the best of them.

    Most reasonably spec'd 225's will be around 1450kgs.
