Autoglym resin polish and airplanes...

No, I am not thinking about polishing an Airbus with a cloth and a bottle of Autoglym (although I guess it could work!).

I'm not even sure where to ask this question...I guess the folks in here will be more in the know than these in the Motors forum.

As simple as it is, I was thinking about getting the Autoglym Super Resin Polish gift set for my dad, who'll be over here on Christmas. Problem is, will he be able to bring it back home, of course in the checked-in baggage? I am not sure how such a product would be classified, nor I can find any mention online. Any info would be appreciated!

I'd be fairly certain that it'd be allowed in checked luggage - but I can't find any photos of the back to see if its warned as explosive; I'd be surprised if it is though.

That I can check easily, as I have the same product for my own car. I don't think it's marked as explosive, but somehow I seem to recall I read "car polish" included in the non-allowed items. Fact is, I can't find any reference online anywhere, so I might very well have imagined it. Searching for "Car polish" and "airline" or "travel" or "baggage", you get plenty of LOT results :)

Ps. love the username, nice bird!

Try doing a search for the MSDS (material safety data sheet) for the particular product / chemical. Section 14 should have all the details if it is regulated as Dangerous Goods under the IATA regs. A lot of polishes, varnishes and paint related material actually are in fact considered DG by air so best to confirm... Maybe an email to the manufacturer also as they will most likely be shipping this product worldwide and will know first hand.

    polish... LOT

I see what you could have done there
I suggest posting it ahead, to be sure to be sure to be sure.

The postal service won't accept liquids for international post - due IATA regulations. Best to find out if the liquid is hazardous or not and not take any chances.

Just checked it out for you op the autoglym is not classed as a DG for road/air & sea so there should not be a problem with carrying on board as checked in baggage.

    14. TRANSPORT INFORMATION
    ADR / RID
    UN no: Not Classified.
    IMDG / IMO
    UN no: Not Classified.
    IATA / ICAO
    UN no: Not Classified.
    15. REGULATORY INFORMATION (CHIP)
    Hazard symbols: No significant hazard.

Thanks guys - I looked at the MSDS as well, classified as not hazardous; on the bottle, it doesn't even have a "flammable" warning. I would say it's a fairly straightforward "no problem". Funny thing is, if it was me flying I wouldn't have given it a second thought and dropped it into the suitcase.
