Starsail tires

I'm looking to get new tires for my car and when I went to the shop I noticed starsail concord tires tyres () on the shelf. They where priced at 70 Euro. The name sounds like Chinese rubbish to me, but I cannot find a single review anywhere.
So, total rubbish or hot new contender?:)

They are Chinese alright, http://www.trademarkia.com/starsail-85961104.html, found a few references for their mud/off road tyres but nothing solid.

There should really be a minimum standard (maybe a 1-3 rating where 1 is a decent midrange and 3 is a premium high-end). You shouldn't have to start Googling whenever you walk into a tyre place to see if what is in front of you is any use.

    They sound deadly.

Apparently they've secured the F1 tyre contract for next season.:)

I guess they had to branch out when NASA retired the shuttle.

So, anyone know anything about Starsail Concorde tyres then?

Normally I wouldn't ask, but those where not in the usual ditchfinder bargain bin section, they where up there with the Pirellis.

i reckon we can safely say they will be relatively crap.

based on the name alone, i'd rather a premium part worn.

Try them and see. I'm not trying to sound smart saying that but if there is no info about them it's a sign of two things as you said in your first post, they're new or they're rubbish.

There is only one way to find out.

I guess so. They also had Infinty 040 at €65 each, now they should be rubbish. At least there are a few (very mixed) reviews of them about. My point is, they where not in the rubbish section, you know the bottom shelf with Wanli, Linglong and Triangle. These seemed a cut above.
Another poster dismissed them based on name. That's a pretty unreliable grounds for judging something. If someone where to produce rubbish tires and call them "Awesome Jet Fighter F1 Roadburners", would you buy them based on the name? ;)

I had them on a car years ago and never thought of them as rubbish. Not the best but definitely not the worst. I got better than I paid for if you know what I mean.

well having been a motoring enthusiast since i was old enough to know what a car was and being an active member on this countrys biggest motoring forum as well as a weekly reader of several motoring magazines and having worked in the motor industry for several years myself, i reckon i can safely say, based on their name, they will be ****.

i mean common sense alone having read the name tells us what country the tyre has most likely originated from, then we only have to compare it to their other offerings to date.

starsail sounds a bit like roadsail, which come from the same part of the world as linglong, triangle, sunny day, first stop speed, and all those other questionable tyre companies.

i mean, when i got to tesco, the tesco value cider flagon is on the same shelf as the stella artois cidre and i'm under no illusion there.

not wishing to come across as harsh or have a go at you, but i feel it's the reality of these tyres.

if we fitted a brand new set of starsails to one car and a set of 50% worn bridgestone turanzas to another car and we were going to brake from 100km/h to zero and we only had 100 meters to do it before we hit a concrete block wall, which car would you rather be in?
