    Hi all,

I am currently working but want to return to full-time education next year
to upskill myself and improve my employability prospects.

I have contacted my local PLC college and they are going to send me out the
form to apply for a place on a course I'd love to do. Apart from the application
form is there anything else I should do?

I'm not sure how the whole system works, I've been working as a PAYE employee
all my adult life and don't know anything about grants or anything to
do with being a student in the 21st century.

I would be stopping work and am looking for advice on how to make this transition
from people who have done this before.

    Thanks

You have to be out of work for a certain length of time to get a social welfare grant/back to education allowance. I don't know about other grants; I suppose they are based on income, but I think it might be income in the year just gone, not the one where you actually have no income from your job.

I'd suggest check with social welfare and with the SUSI system.
