Opinions on these cars for €8000

Im looking for a saloon car for as close to €8000 as possible.
Hoping for 2008 on because of the cheaper tax.
The cars I've been looking at are
mondeos diesel and all have around 100, 000 miles.

Passats diesels with around 100, 000 also.
Mazda 6, 1.8 petrol. Theres not many good ones.
Avensis again all have 100, 000 +.
Im going to look for service history etc.
Question is, is there any car I'm missing out on. Are volvo s40's any good. They seem good value. Hondas are too expensive. An Accord would be pre 2008 and petrol, costing 700 a year on tax. Wife dosnt want a civic or skoda.

Most nearly 7 year old diesel cars will have 100k miles on them at this stage as diesel cars are bought to be driven. If you don't need a diesel then there is better value in petrol cars and chances are they will have lower miles on them. Also don't focus too much on cheap motor tax, cars that cost less to tax tend to cost more to buy. You could end up spending more to save only a few quid in motor tax.

Under €600 to tax but's in budget, they are also very good on fuel and very reliable.

Yes good point on the value. I have no problem with the 1.8 petrol as the tax is not too bad. However the mpg on the mazda is only 30-35 which adds to the cost. Dont know what that civics mpg is like. That cars been there for some time now. I like the other civics but probably a bit small for our needs.
Mileage will be 15-20,000 per year with a good few trips to Mayo/Sligo from Dublin and needed for work travel.

That Civic 1.8 is easily good for a consistent 40+ MPG, nippy enough too with 140hp, Colm_MCM has one so he could give you a better idea.

Those 1.8 Civics will do 40 mpg with minimum effort.

Ok thanks for the replies. Any ideas why it hasnt sold yet. Would you buy this one. Seems pretty basic on the inside for a honda.

The one here has done about 1k since she got it, it's tipping along at slightly shy of 40 with a fair bit of urban driving and a nice chunk of that it's had the back filled with heavy gym equipment.

Like yourself, every one wants a low tax diesel car, post 2008 petrol cars take longer to sell. The interior of the Civic saloon is alot more sober than the hatchback but equipment wise they are better equipped than most of their rivals. Try finding a Corolla with climate control a/c and sun roof.

Any opinions on any of these cars. Im not against diesels with 100,000 + if they have history of service, replacements etc. Also the Mazda above I linked earlier. Seems a good car for the price compared to the market. Can anyone see any issues as to why this might be.
