Annual Taxsaver taking the Leap

So it looks like the Annual Dart/Luas Taxsaver ticket is becoming a Leap card that people will have to tag on and off with.

Cue hundreds of people who never had to tag on before getting fined in the first few months of 2015?

My annual rail taxsaver has been a leap card since January 2014, and while I normally tag on (for the sake of providing usage figures if nothing else), it's the same annual ticket loaded onto the leap card instead of an IE smart card, so I would be very surprised if this suddenly becomes a requirement on Irish Rail. I've never seen a distinction between tagging off/on on it in the past if using validators as opposed to turnstiles. It has been mentioned before that it is a condition of the annual/monthly tickets on Luas that you need to tag on, but I can't comment as to the actual veracity of that statement.

Yes you do need to tag on - that's how the ticket inspectors can see what the active ticket is loaded on the card.

All of the other monthly/annual passes have been on LEAP for a while now so I don't see what the issue is.

It takes 1 second to tag on.

Takes a lot longer than that if you're coming/going to the centre platform in Howth Junction from the Ind Estate.

Does anyone know when the Dublin Bus annual tickets for next year will be available to be picked up at payzone?

I asked the taxsaver person in my office and they havent heard anything (although the concept of having to pick it up at payzone did cause them confusion)

One little annoyance is that I have received another leap card for next year. I'm not sure why but maybe its because I've switched from bus/rail to bus/rail/luas

Nothing to lose sleep over its just a bit annoying given that I thought the whole purpose of putting annual tickets onto these wallets was that you no longer needed to collected annual passes every year. They couldn't even transfer the remaining days from one over to the other so I have to hang onto both for the moment and it just seems a waste as well.

Like I said nothing major to whine about!

Mine is showing up on my leapcard already. If you've registered your leap card (which you will have to have done for an annual ticket) just check online and if it shows up there I would presume it will automatically load next time you're tagging on on the bus.

Of course, all this advice is predicated on you having a current annual ticket.

My taxsaver office got a mail and leaflet advising that to get tickets loaded to leap accounts you would need to check your balance at payzone shops for bus tickets or at automated ticket machines at stations/stops for rail or luas

Bit of a bump here, so apologies if this has been covered in a more recent thread....

I have an annual taxsaver leap card.

On the card itself though, it doesn't list the expiry date, like it would have on the old annual bus/luas tickets.

Is there any way I can check what date I need to renew on, as I'm not 100% on the exact month mine expires?

When tag on on the bus the display shows "Annual Travelwide Expires xx/xx/2015".

Again I need to clarify this.

You have a personalised LEAP card, onto which is loaded an annual bus/luas ticket. The card is not a ticket. The ticket is loaded onto the card.

The card is a standard personalised LEAP card. It can hold up to five different ticket products and be used as in epurse mode if you use the DART/Commuter rail in the Short Hop Zone or Bus Eireann or any of the private operators that accept LEAP.

When your new ticket is issued you will need to load that onto your existing card either at a Payzone agent or at a LUAS ticket machine.
