Name change fees

Having had a look at EI's website, I noticed that name change fees are actually very high, approx €100 in most cases.

I can understand that other changes like routing etc would actually impact on the airline in a small way, but a name change has no material impact whatsoever on the service unless airlines began to charge by weight.

Does the industry itself have a defence for this level of charge, for what it is in essence a change to a database row?

Stop people buying fares at sale prices and reselling them for a profit by changing the name. Which did actually happen in the past.

Ah, ok, I see the logic now!
