Applying to jobs in Ireland from the UK

Wondered if anyone here has ever been in a similar situation?

I moved over to the UK from Ireland for college about 6 years ago, stuck around and worked here since. Been giving serious thought to coming back over the last while and have seen a few jobs in my field (Insurance) that I'd be interested in applying for. Wondered if anyone has any experience of applying for a job overseas, I wouldn't exactly be highly skilled as I only have a couple of years experience, any tips in terms of what ground to cover as far as covering letters etc. go?

Just apply as you would regularly. If possible use an Irish address, I found that made a difference when I was interviewing for Irish jobs while in the UK, it was a question they regularly asked to make sure I was really interested.

In my cover letter I mentioned my uk experience but that I was in the process of relocating to Ireland. I never made it seem like I was only considering it, and suggested in interviews that my partner had already relocated and I was coming back to Ireland to join. I think this gave employers the confidence that I was actually going to move if offered.

I've found having international experience gave me great opportunities when I came back as there was a real perception From recruiters that I had a lot of experience.

One thing that is worth doing is asking for if you get through to interview stage is if the first interview can be over the phone. I flew over several time for interviews at my own expense for jobs I didn't get, but the job I finally got had me do a phone interview, then a skype interview, before I flew over in person.

Don't be afraid to ask if they will pay for your flight, partner has had all his paid for, I never did! And don't be afraid to ask for a Monday or Friday interview so you can have a weekend at home!
