Can't find any recent similar threads when I search...

Need to get the timing belt changed on my 04 1.9tdi Bora soon and was wondering what the going rate is for a good independent mechanic for this. I'm seeing ads for msl group and certain vw dealers advertising the belt and water pump change for 399, which to my knowledge sounds fairly good for a main dealer?

Could I expect to get it done for less independently? Thanks.

That's a good price. Kits have come down in price. I think I paid 450 for a timing belt water pump on my 02Bora. How I miss that car.it was bullet proof

€350 would be about average for an independent garage.

Seems to be dublin which wouldn't be great but I spend a lot of time up with work so if it was a good price I'd go for it.

Thanks for the replies; just wanted to know a ballpark figure for the average price. Will post back when I get a quote off a mechanic from around home.

The pre PD kit is more expensive so you may have to pay a little more than €350, depending on where you go.

Where are you based? Just got a VW Golf IV 1.9TDI PD timing done for €295 in Galway city. Can recommend if you're near.

Not sure about the OP, but Im in Dublin pre PD, but if you can pm who they were out of curiosity, prob too far to make it worthwhile really, but 295, seems good.

Hey, just to update; I got local mechanic from home to do it. I got timing belt, brake fluid change and a check over for the nct done for €350.

Bushions need to be done also next week (he didn't have parts or time yesterday); he didn't mention a price but said they're not too dear.

Overall happy with that, Thanks for yer advice.
