How do I fix a hole in this wall?

I'm wondering what the cheapest and best way to fix a hole in drywall is?

Depends on the hole size some filler works for smaller holes. For bigger holes just cut it out and add plasterboard

Best way IMHO is to

1. square off the hole,
2. screw 2 no. 2 x 1 batten to the rear vertical or horizontal sides of the opening, allowing 25mm showing in the hole.
3. fix new piece of plasterboard onto battens above.
4. Fill out the joints, sand and repaint.

Even it the hole is small this is the best long term fix in my opinion so I would enlarge the hole to suit!

It may need a skim and will need a paint, both requiring the plaster to dry, so a full job will take more than a few hours and require at least 2 visits...
