Unlikely in the immediate short term. RTÉ and TV3 have been in dispute over transmission issues in the past and I'm not sure if all has been fully resolved to both parties satisfaction yet but I am open to correction on it.

When? was it announced to happen at all?

I suspect the recent announcement by TV3 Group of the launch of TV3+1 on UPC Digital Cable TV service (UPC Channel No: 119) has generated some speculation as to if AND/OR when would viewers be able to see TV3+1 on other platforms too such as Saorview, Sky Digital (Ireland) and eircom E-Vision ?

To my knowledge TV3 Group has made no other such public announcements regarding availability of this service on any of the other tv platforms here (with the exception of UPC) at this point.

TG4 HD has apparently been broadcasting in HD format for quite some time on one platform but has yet to launch in HD format on other platforms

According to their 2013 accounts RTÉ has issued High Court proceedings over €500k of analogue and digital transmission fees owed for 2012.

Also in the accounts they state they are in dispute with RTÉ regarding the charges for 2013.

Perhaps TV3.ie will consider streaming TV3+1 timeshift tv channel schedule live over the internet (for those watching from within the Republic of Ireland) in a similar way to TV3 channel watch live Online service.

It won't, if TV3 could avoid Saorview altogether , it would. It pains them to pay RTE for transmission on Saorview for one channel, never mind putting another one on it.

Well,TV3 Group already has TWO television channels currently broadcasting on the Saorview platform (i.e.)

    Channel 3 = TV3
    Channel 5 = 3e

Do you work for them? If so, you should be well aware that they have resisted paying their subs to RTE at every opportunity. Hopefully we will never see TV 3 + 1. And they could get rid of 3E as well.

Eh, no I do NOT work for TV3 Group nor am I here to defend TV3 or RTÉ or 2RN or any other media group for that matter. I am simply stating that TV3 has TWO channels that air on Saorview at present not one which was previously stated incorrectly in another post. I am also well aware that there is an ongoing dispute however; it is important that we try where possible to share and provide accurate information.

I would like to see more & more competition thriving in the marketplace and equal fair terms be given to all players on the various tv platforms out there. I believe the Irish tv viewer would support and welcome more in the form of home grown material from whomever be it on:
    RTÉ One, TV3, RTÉ 2, TG4, 3e, UTV Ireland, BBC Northern Ireland, UTV NI, Setanta Sports, IRISH TV etc;

My apologies, I totally forgot about 3e, shows you how often I watch 3e!

That's ok - I just felt I should correct the record. I am not an enthusiastic fan of 3e myself so; I am not offended. In my view, I think TV3 tried to replicate the success of the E4 digital satellite model on the cheap when it relaunched 3e out of the former Channel 6 a few years ago. It is aimed at a younger audience that TV3 but I wonder how long more it can last with all the competition out there especially from the satellite opt-outs channels selling Irish tv advertising the not to mention the start up of UTV Ireland next month. I cannot see 3e making it to 2016 to be honest.

I'd rather they got rid of TV3 and kept 3e

I think that TV3 might actually do much better than UTV Ireland (outside the time-slots of Emmerdale and Coronation Street) once it launches it's 2015 tv schedule changes. RedRock the new Irish soap drama being aired by TV3 looks quite interesting from the promo I saw this evening - it has a similar style and feeling to the way Love/Hate was promoted to tv audiences.

I am not impressed by the proposed schedule UTV Ireland seems to have planned - very little imagination apart from news updates & the existing soap operas. Not a whole lot new and fresh programme ideas for an Irish audience to get excited about. I hope I am wrong as I was hoping an increase in competition and Irish channel choice would drive up the quality and standards for us the viewers.

3e needs a re-think in my view as it is not at the races!

Anything UTV-NI ever made themselves was and is DIRE in the extreme.
Their newest local news-debate show "The Issue", beggars belief. Everything about it (even down to details like the titles and theme music) looks like something not even worthy of a local school community TV channel.

I have TV3 on Saorview and although there's crap-all on that channel most of the time, things like their channel idents, studio debates, Tonight with Vincent Browne, their news shows etc. are LIGHT-YEARS ahead of anything from UTV in terms of professionalism.

I know UTV-Ireland is possibly a separate entity to UTV-NI, but please no-one should have high expectations about this channel.

I hear what you are saying and it's well communicated. UTV in Ulster is ITV with the odd bit of local news & current affairs.

Right now, I am interested in how RedRock will go for TV3 as the way it is being promoted is quite similar to how RTÉ promoted Love/Hate. Apparently something like 15 new shows to debut on TV3 once they lose rights to certain shows.

I welcome more choice from the Irish indigenous sector because it forces the Irish terrestrial channels: RTÉ One, RTÉ 2, TV3, TG4, 3e and UTV Ireland all to up their game which is no bad thing in terms of better standards and quality of output. If UTV Ireland does not win a large audience after 12months then it will have been a very costly experiment gone wrong. That said, I reckon some of the experienced personnel they have signed such as Pat Kenny and other RTÉ/TV3 senior staff would not have moved unless they felt it would enhance their career and offered them a promising future. Time will tell...

I think UTV Ireland will be the second most watched channel after RTE 1 by the end of 2015

This thread appears to have turned into a general TV3 thread and we already have one of those over in Broadcasting. I'll give it a chance to go back onto the topic of TV3+1 but if it doesn't I'll have to close it

TV3+1 might become a much more popular proposition to more and more people once TV3 Group have more unique shows that will appear to TV viewers here in Ireland. New programmes such as RedRock the new TV3 soap drama might do very well indeed given that it is not broadcast on rival stations such as RTÉ, TG4, ITV, BBC, Channel 4 and so on. I hear that "The Restaurant" which had no less than 7 successful series on RTÉ One is about to air it's new series on TV3 which obviously means TV3+1 timeshift channel for those who subscribe to UPC Horizon digital cable tv.

I hope that all parties can sort out their differences so that we will get to see TV3+1 on the free to view digital platform Saorview sooner rather than later.
