My wificard under windows 7 won't turn on.

It works in safe mode with networking.

It stop working after a windows system update.

I tried a system restore to before the update, but it didn't solve the problems.

I have tried to install drivers for it, but not sure if I'm getting the right ones.

    Any help and suggestions please.

To Mods if this is posted in the wrong forum, please move to the appropriate one.

    Please help,

    Regards
    John

Check under device manager that there is no "extra" networking device showing up there. It might contain the words "psuedo" or "tunnelling" Remove it (right click) if there is. I would probably run the usual scrubby tools (malwarebytes, ccleaner) before going for the big kill and backing up your data, factory restore and updating for the next two days!

Thanks for the Tips, It started working again of it's own accord!

No extra network devices in device manager, but when it wasn't working my Broadcom 4313 device was missing from there.

Running Malwarebytes now anyway just in case, ran ccleaner earlier.

I have that effect on computers. I had a woman here earlier that couldn't transfer songs onto her ipod. I stood over her while she did it and not a bother - away they went!

Any of the above I should be concerned with?
Or that would cause problems with Network Wifi card?

Nothing bad there. Then again, if it was really bad, it wouldn't show up in malware bytes. You should have a look through your add remove programs and Google anything you don't know what it is. Same goes for if you go to start type Msconfig in the run box and go to the startup tab, have a look at the entries there. If anything looks suspicious then Google it be for removing it.

The wifi card stopped working again , I'm now thinking it's just a Hardware Issue on this old (4 years old) laptop.

I tried running the Laptop in diagnostic mode from msconfig which would have turned off most apps/services running that could interfere with the card.

Would the wifi card drivers work in that mode?

The wifi works sometimes after a power down cycle (+ Holding the power button with battery and power removed).

I will have to inquire about the cost of a replacement wifi card, in the new year.

USB ones are not that expensive.

I think I may have a couple of pci ones knocking about. You're welcome to them to see if they work although from experience, it can be difficult to find one that will work in another computer. I have a couple of usb ones that I don't need anymore.

I have a spare usb wifi dongle. Plus I get my internet from Mobile Wifi rooter that I can connect by usb.

I just don't like having things hanging of the Laptop.

I tried selective mode in msconfig and it started working again, so it maybe some program/service on startup that is interfering with it.

But it makes it hard to figure out what, when the card works sometimes and other times not.

maybe for pig iron try a pci one (or two). If I were to go grasping at straws, it could be a power issue. Power fluctuations could knock out something as sensitive as a wifi card. How's the battery on that laptop? Could you try reinstalling the driver (delete the current driver completely). Maybe go to the manufactures site of the adapter for the most up to date one. Last straw could be backing up your data and wiping your system, or if you have a spare hard drive, slap that in and install windows or even linux had see how it fares out with the fresh install before blasting your current configuration.
