Looking at the Ladies Raymond Weil Noemia range, was in a shop today and it was quoted at 1650, I got the girl down to 1500.

Tag would also be in your price range.

I imagine your wife would prefer the convenience of a quartz - automatics will need to be reset etc.

You won't get an Omega or a Rolex for that price - unless you go 2nd hand.....

Yeah from doing some research it would seem so, it's not really for an investment but when paying that kinda of money the idea has come into my mind. If I did pay that for a RW I'd want it to keep going for years to come and not pack up in two years.

There are plenty of watches in the price value that are a much better investment if you purchase from a grey dealer online.

Will she give a crap if it's an automatic or battery powered? I know my wife wouldn't. Don't pay a premium for the movement just for the sake of it.

I'd agree with the Longines suggestion - my wife got a very nice quartz one a few years ago. Here are some more examples:

I'm well in to watches, e.g. have had 17 at one point, several over the thousand price point, yet when it came to it I bought my wife an expensive Raymond Weil watch: I picked it because it looked really nice and she loves it, wears it all the time.

Your wife I'd expect is going to want a watch that you liked and picked out for her, not one with stuff inside the case that neither of ye will ever see! I'd just go with instinct and pick what catches your eye. Plus you'll also get reassurance and support from buying somewhere locally, like Appelby or Weir, which is especially important when getting an expensive present - last thing you want to do is get into some protracted row with a guy on the internet over some minor mark on the case, wrong strap or unexpected colouring etc.
