    Hi

I know there has been plenty of these threads but I read a few of them and couldn't find the info I was looking for.

I want to buy a media player for a relative. He has a HD TV and no wifi/computer. I want to give him something that will play downloaded movies/shows. Thats pretty much it, nothing too fancy. No streaming required.

It would need an internal hardrive though 500 GB would be enough.
I do want it to be powerful enough to run 1080p large video files.
A nice, simple user interface would be a plus.
    Nothing that costly either.

Does anybody know of something that would do the job?

An M8 android box or similar with a 500gb HDD plugged into it and running Plex is perfect for your needs.

Hmmm these seem quite dear. Then a HDD cost on top.
Would I get what I'm looking for at in/around 60 euro?

Not a snowballs chance . . . (but you might have).

Unless you plan to configure the Droid box for him(xbmc iptv..ect).Good internet is a must for this kind of box. But sure have a goo online and see what is in your budget

A raspberry pi might be an option. If you have some of the stuff lying around you could reuse. Then grab an external hd to plug in and you're away.

Have a look at this - http://www.pixmania.ie/media-player-with-and-without-hard-drive/wd-my-passport-av-tv-wdbhdk0010bbk-eesn-1-tb-mediaplayer-with-hard-drive/22086495-a.html#description - but its dependent on you having a TV that can play all the files.

For €60 a Raspberry Pi might be your best option - See Post #4 at http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057342691

    Thanks for the recommendations all!

This is gonna cost more than I imagined it would.
I use a PS3 to play my videos (albeit I'm limited in formats) and I assumed since a second hand PS3's can be quite cheap a media player would cost less.

I need to look into this more..
