    Hi,

Looking for some advice, saw beautiful car today in an independent garage and done a deal verbally for the car. Ran a cartell check this evening and its showing as finance owed in the UK.

The car is in Ireland since July and has Irish plates and tax. Where do I stand?

    Thanks.

I presume the seller did not mention this to you?

The question this poses to me is that if they were not telling you about this then what else about the car are they not telling you?

Is the seller the current registered owner?

It could have been sorted and just not updated on a database somewhere.
It wouldn't be the first time.
Cartell should be able to tell you who the listed company (where the finance is owed) are. If not, then look for a refund as the report is worthless if they can't back it up.
It would probably be better to run a check with one of the UK car-check companies....they are usually much better at this (and Cartell is only receiving it's UK info from one of them anyway).

Either way, until you can satisfy yourself that there is absolutely no outstanding Finance it would be foolish to hand over money for the car.

Is from an independent dealer, show as Garage is the registered owner on cartell.

It would want to be very keenly priced for me not to walk away and find something else with no such problems.

Yes Cartell give me the name of the financial institution Lease Plan UK. Its type of finance says contract hire? Im going to contact them and the garage here that are selling the car to see whats going on.

If you're really very keen on this particular car, get the name of the finance co. from cartell, get the UK reg number, and contact the finance co. yourself to check if it's clear....don't take anyone else's word that it's all fine.

edit; I see you were typing faster than me. Contact Lease Plan with the UK reg and see what's up. It's probably nothing....best of luck

another edit; forgot to add, UK Reg should be on the VLC.

Cheers...got the UK reg anyway from cartell check. Hopefully its clear and just a data base issue. Will check will dealer in the morning and Lease Plan on Monday. Looks like I would be covered anyway in the Consumer sale of good act if anything was to go pear shaped. As buying from a dealer and not private.

Do a HPI (UK) check and you should get the info. Also offers a guarantee for errors. Not sure if Cartell is necessarily the same.

there would then be a reason for it being keenly priced I'd guess.

    Walk away OP

I wouldn't buy without it being fully sorted and cleared, potentially the same as buying a stolen vehicle, car could be seized and returned to the finance company. Very odd that someone registered it on Irish plates and didn't clear the finance, perhaps as was mentioned system didn't update.

He has all the info he needs Marcus. Just has to contact the Finance/Leasing Co. to see if the car is clear.

Im surprised with the advise to walk away at this stage - yeah its popped up but more than likely its a mistake updating the database- Leaseplan are a company car provider (with poster on here from their Irish office) and when a car finishes lease it would be sold in trade or via auction - it the car is 4 years old its likely to have been sold by them

Turns out it was an admin error on database which has been fixed now. I have a letter from Lease Plan UK confirming they have no financial intrest in the car and have a letter from the auction house it came from confirming no finance is owed on the car. I spoke myself with Lease Plan yesterday and they confirmed it was a matter of the box not being ticked on the spreadsheet. Just to be sure I ran another online HP check this morning and it comes up clear.

    Thanks for advice.

can the car be registered in ireland if the is outstanding Finance in uk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,479 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Revenue here don't care about outstanding finance on a car, the car still needs to be VRT'd and registered with them.

BTW why did you buy a car with outstanding finance in the UK? Have you actually confirmed if it still has outstanding finance or just that the system hasn't been updated to reflect that the finance has been paid off as per what has been posted in this thread already?

The dealer said we read paid the outstanding finace but is not showing on system yet it will take time to be clean what should i do in this situation i paid only the deposit 1000 euro how should i sort out this matter thank you.

I'd wait until the finance bit is sorted before paying another penny. The system most likely hasn't been updated yet with it being Christmas and all. I'd expect them to have it sorted by the end of this week or early next week so keep on top of them.
