Just received a letter from An Post regarding an outstanding TV licence at my address. I don't own the TV, it's owned by another occupant. I'm wondering as to HOW An Post have attributed me as the owner and WHERE An post got my name from. I know previous correspondence to the address have been addressed to the "occupant" no one specific.

Its not the owner of the tv. Its occupier of the house. As to how they got your name? No idea

Maybe call and ask instead of getting outraged online. The caps you use are HILARIOUS

They deliver letters to you at your home don't they?

That should explain WHERE they got your name from.

WHERE An post got my name from

Inspector may have asked a neighbour who lives at your address, possibly consulted register of electors, maybe inspector called to your address and another occupant gave your name

All my mail is posted to another address.
    I'm not the owner.
I just live there Mon - Fri

So pretty perplexed as to where my name was pulled from, neighbours wouldn't know my name or other occupiers would just know my first name.

Friday evening, yea I'll just call. The use of caps was to emphasise my key points.

The whole purpose is to share experiences and see others who may have been in the same situation and would be able to advise, so please if you have nothing useful to say, please troll some other threads. MUPPET

So there's a TV in the place but no license? Seems pretty cut and dry tbh...

    Landlord?

Yea was thinking that also, but then thought why were the initial letters addressed to "the occupant". They obviously didn't have the landlords name in the first instance.

Yes for the owner of the TV to pay the license who resides also in the house, not for me. Now if the other occupants want to discuss splitting the TV License i have no objections. My concern is where my details were got from.

Is the tenancy registered with the PRTB? Are you subletting or does everyone deal directly with the landlord? What about utility bills?

Given that TV licence is required by statute, An Post may have powers to petition for details of the residents of a property from any organisation who would hold such information for the purposes of collecting the fee.

They could have gone to your local sorting office and seen that there are ESB, phone, gas, bank,VHI letters/bills/statements addressed to Jupiler Beer and put that on the bill for the TV Licence. Simple, really.

if you own the house or main renter you pay the licence, you might give them the other persons name
