TV licence was brought in many years ago, when the exact same tvs were kept for decades and other appliances... Nowadays we upgrade everything very frequently... We more than make up the price of a TV licence via buying a lot more stuff and upgrading it more frequently.

So if you go into Harvey Norman and spend €600 on a new TV how much does RTE get? You do know that you have to pay it every year - not just when you buy a new TV?

Would you like to go back to the old days when we had a 24" black and white that had to last for years because we couldn't afford to upgrade it?

Are you suggesting that a broadcasting levy should be included in the cost of the TV? Otherwise, what is your point?
