    Hi,

I will be putting down engineered wood flooring and cannot nail or glue it down as there will be electric heating film underneath it.

    However,:
    - should i glue the edges?
    - short edge only or long edge?
    - if so, what glue to use?

    Thanks in advance.

glue the top edge of tongue on each board,no need to glue short edge, its not going to go anywhere.if any excess glue comes out, wipe off with a damp cloth

You're probably already sorted but if not, PVA. Can be gotten in any builders providers or DIY place.

If you apply glue only to the tongue much of it will be wiped off the tongue as you insert the board. This will result in a weak bond.

It's better to fill the bottom of the groove with enough glue so that when the next board is inserted the glue is squeezed out to surround the tongue top and bottom, filling the joint entirely. There should be some excess if sufficient glue is used, which must be promptly wiped off with a damp cloth.

    Hi.
With heating under floor it is essential to glue both long and short ends and clamp floor when it's done for 24 hours until glue is set. As the floor is a floating floor it will become one complete unit and will expand and contract as such. Glue the groove and insert the tongue then. Make sure you have a good bead of glue in groove. If not glued properly it can break the glue seal as it expands and contracts. Make sure you have expansion allowances built into the floor especially on the board width, around radiator pipes, External corners and any other places where they are required. Engineered flooring when bought is down to approx 8% moisture content, when installed could go up to approx 10% moisture content. So, if you do not leave expansion allowances you floor could give you problems. Dont forget to put down 500 g polythene on floor before foam.
