Rads downstairs are half heating and upstairs are fine really really warm. I have tried bleeding the system. Just thought I would post here before for any information?

It's just a normal glow warm boiler installed about 2006/7, hasn't been serviced that I know of, any ideas? Well overdue a service I know but rather try solve this problem before going for a service.

heating at top only or bottom only ?

The downstairs are like a lukewarm mix with this mix been more settled at the top and not freezing cold but cold at the bottom. Upstairs the rads so hot you could keep your hand on them for more than 2/3 seconds.

You say they half heat, does that mean hot on top or bottom?

Just checked there. bottom seems cold (not freezing) and top is warm not hot.

It's either a balancing issue or sludge build up.

check that all the valves are open and see if that makes a difference.

But I would rinse out the full system if you can.
Do you have a drain tap something like this
If so, drain the full system and refill. and redrain. This can get rid of a lot of sludge buildup.
If you don't have a drain tap like above - fit one to a lower rad near a door where a hose can be connect to a outside drain.

do you have gas or oil ? closed or open system (with oil - a smaller tank in th attic or a red tank beside the emersion tank )

Check valves, we had this issue and not turned out that we had the thermostat too high upstairs, also bleed the system but if you do bleed it remember to refill at the boiler, bleeding it without refilling will just leave you with zero water.

Was thinking along the same lines myself, maybe more sludge build up rather than balancing

I think I have one of them taps on the boiler, not sure if it's closed or open. I think open as I haven't seen a pressure gauge anywhere around the house to show pressure.

How do you refill the boiler? Is that not an automatic fed into the system from the tank in the attic?

Don't waste your time emptying and refilling the system. It's pointless

no, well not on outs when heater is bled pressure drops due to no water so you need to refill, there is typically a little leaver under the boiler you turn left to refill. Check yore gauge should be between 1 and 2
