What is involved in replacing a ball joint? how much would it typically cost? (VW Passat)

Depends on the year/model of the Passat and which ball joint.

It's a 00 1.6 and on the right hand side

Well there are 5 ball joints on each side of that car so other depends on which one is gone. There is upper front, upper rear, lower front, lower rear and trackrod end. Some are cheaper/easier to replace than others. HORRENDOUSLY over designed suspension with little to no tangible benifits.

I got a L/H upper arm replaced for €44 parts ex VAT recently. Labour was €30. Tracking was €31. This was for a 99 passat saloon.

North Dublin garage. No problems recommending if you want their name & number.
