Gas Fire - service needed South Dublin

    Hi all,

I have a gas fire in a room which only gets occasional use. The fire is installed about 7 years but has been used I'd say 20 times a year over that period.

It worked fine until recently the pilot light started blowing out. I can restart the pilot light and it will stay on for hours but then it will suddenly blow out. I thought it might just be a draught down the chimney in the windy weather but even if the fire is on full blast it will suddenly blow out.

The fire hasn't been serviced since it was installed so I guess it's time to do that and perhaps that will resolve the blow out issue also?

Anyone with experience of gas fire servicing and troubleshooting here who can maybe confirm a service is what I need and recommend someone? If you don't want to do so in the forum please feel free to PM me.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like dirty pilot of poor thermocouple, either will be sorted with a service and yours is way over due.

    Hi Billy,

I don't suppose you can recommend someone to do the service for me? The company who sold and installed the fireplace don't service them () and the engineer who services my gas boiler doesn't do gas fires!!

I'd rather go with a recommendation from someone than pick a random company/person from the Golden pages/Google.

Great you got sorted , but might I add , the lad who services the boiler , but not a fire , is not an engineer . We call them chancers ;)

Maybe he is!! He's RGII etc but said gas fires are "more trouble than they're worth"
