    Hi,
I have a Nikon D5200 camera with 55-200MM and 18-55MM lenses. I basically bought the camera to take photos of birds of prey I see while driving around the country, I've got a kestral with the 55-200 but its not just close enough for me- I'm wondering what lens could I get to get detail in the birds without having to rob a bank? Photo attached to see what I mean! - Also I was that far from this fella.....

    Thanks

Unfortunately your best options with minimal initial cash outlay would be THIS and THIS

There is the 55-300 version of what you have that's supposed to be good, but it would not bring you that much closer. A 2x teleconverter might work but you would lose a stop of light and focusing might be a problem. If you could try the 55-300 with teleconverter in a shop it would give you some idea how good the combo is.

LOL very good, what I mean is I'm willing to spend money but not 9 or 10 grand! I was looking at this...

I just don't know is it better or not much better than what I have.

Thanks Woody - will the lens above work with convertor or is it needed?

    Or just spotted this.....

Ok, I see you are willing to spend a few bucks! I imagine those lenses would be fun, but why don't you go over to:
    http://www.dpreview.com/
and ask, there are lots of people into photographing Birds In Flight there.
