Paid in error by old job

Hi All, I finished working in my old job in the middle of the summer. However, I noticed that they have paid me for the past two months. It appears they've made an error as I don't believe any payment was due to me.

In order to cover myself I emailed the HR department to let them know. I am yet to receive a response. I am just wondering what my legal stance is on this. Was I right to draw their attention to it? Am I legally obliged to pay them back?

    Thanks.

Yes you have pay them pack. No service was provided so you aren't entitled to pay. It's like a shop charging you for something you didn't buy. You are entitled to your money back.

I imagine at the end of the year when are doing tax certs they would realize they paid you wrong. So they were provably going to figure out anyway

That's what I was thinking. It's more than likely only a matter of time before it's noticed.

It's actually going to create problems for me as it has messed up my tax refund for the year.
