Terrier or Lurcher for Ferreting?

I am back into the ferreting game this season after many years away from it, I have decent bunch of ferrets who seem to be getting the hang of it and some permission on my doorstep so I'm enjoying myself.
One thing I'm missing is a dog, my Border x Lakeland terrier bitch died last year, she was a great bushing dog and caught a good few rabbits in her life, marked holes well and was a good friend to have a mooch about with.
So with the increased interest in the ferreting I've been thinking about getting another dog, I'm torn between another small terrier, Patterdale,Border etc. or a small lurcher maybe a Bedlington x Whippet. I've Never owned any type of running dog before but the beddy whippet cross seems to be a good ferreting dog according to what I've read. I know what a good terrier can do but I am interested in finding out if I would get more use and fun out of a lurcher.
Does anyone have any first hand experiences they could pass on?

A small lurcher is ideal for the job! As you mentioned, something with Whippet in it! Never had one myself, but when I did have ferrets, I teamed up with a friend of mine who had a Whippet x fox Terrier, cracking little dog, used to clear long nets to pick escapee's with ease!

Id go with the small lurcher myself as you would get the added bonus of been able to do a bit of lamping as well, great craic
