Understanding Breast Cancer

Hi all, My mum has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. They said it was very early stages and very treatable which is great. She went for her operation the other day and they found another lump which they had to remove also, her results of the second lump and lymph nodes are coming out next week and they said if it is a case that the small lumps keep appearing she may need a mastectomy.

Our families world has kind of stopped and we are all in shock, very positive for her but its so much to take in

    Has anyone been through this?

i had breast cancer in 2011, had two operations, first one was a lumpectomy. went back for the results of that and got told that he found a bit of cancer between my boob and arm pit so he he booked me in for another op' in jan 2012. he took out 30 nodds. ..i am now cancer free:D..the thing about cancer op is that everyone are different,. no one can tell you what is going to happen untill results come in not even the doctor, its a waiting game and worrying time..but keep that positive vibe that ye have it will get you through it...

My mum was diagnosed with it in November 2011 at age 49 - had a lumpectomy just before Christmas that year and a full course of radiotherapy and we thought that was the end of it. Second one in December 2012, two lumpectomies and then they couldn't do the radiotherapy again because the second lump was within the area which had been blasted the first time. Double mastectomy in October 2013 - thankfully nothing more since then and she's in good health now.

It is a rough road, but if it has been caught early it is very treatable.

    Just resurrecting this thread.
Family member diagnosed last week. Op in July - lumpectomy with some nodes (doc says as a precaution) and radium, then will see if chemo is needed.

He said it's been caught very early and is very treatable.

Like what blond45 said up above - I have come to realise everyone is different, that no two cancer patients are the same. That is what is so frustrating - nothing set in stone etc.

First thing I heard when I heard of diagnosis was a life sentence, i.e. what if it comes back.

I know this is a negative way to look at it, but I can't help it :(
