So, it seems this is happening next year. I know that emails have gone out to a select few this morning asking them to express interest in racing in Cat 1/Division 1 next year. Anyone on here receive that mail? And no, I didn't get it.

TI Website, poor copy and paste job but wont let me paste the URL

We're excited to announce the 2015 race calendar which features some improvements and innovations. Over the past number of years there have been calls for an alteration to the events structure, and after consultation with clubs and members we've listened.

The new 6 race Super Series will provide some exciting head to head racing for the top athletes in the country (cat 1), previously not possible in the National Series. The Super Series also provides opportunities for the up and coming young triathletes across the country who want to make the step up to elite draft legal racing, and in time can attract international athletes to race against the best of Irish, as is currently seen in the British Super Series, French GP and so on.

The Sprint and Standard Distance National Championships will be Draft Legal for Cat 1 Athletes Only, meaning a return to this style of racing after a 4 year hiatus. This is a fantastic development and means aspiring athletes will no longer be forced to incur costs travelling abroad to gain draft legal race experience.

As important is improving the race experience of Age Group athletes who make up the vast majority of our membership. With this is mind the Vodafone National Series will feature 29 events taking place between April and Sept. We have endeavoured to create an even spread of events across the country and have made the best possible selections based on submissions received while looking to avoid clashes with Super Series and Championship races.

Age Group athletes will be required to complete 1 Sprint, 1 Standard and 2 other races to be eligible for Age Group Awards. Previously just 300 people completed the National Series but in 2015 with more local races the need to travel the length and breadth of the country is reduced and the opportunity for more people to complete the National Series is far greater.

Another exciting development is that of the Mixed Team Relay Club Championships. This has proven to be a great sceptical and the ITU are determined to have this included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It will be fascinating to see clubs battle it out over this fast and furious format. Triathlon Ireland are currently in talks with the ETU, exploring the opportunity of the top clubs in Ireland competing in a European Mixed Team Relay Competition in years to come.

We are also currently seeking bids for a Cross Triathlon National Championships and will be announcing details of the National Duathlon Series, Club Championships along with Youth, Junior and Intervarsity Championships in the New Year.

    Super Series (Cat 1 Only)

The Super Series includes 6 races – 3 Sprint and 3 Olympic with one race in each distance designated as the National Championships. The top male and female triathletes in Ireland will race head to head for the overall series title, with a Cat 1 male and Cat 1 female wave going off ahead of the Age Group race.

The Super Series will be scored on the ITU system with 1,000 points being awarded to the winners of the National Championships and 700 points being awarded to the winners of the other Super Series races. Scoring for the second and subsequent positions will be based on a 7.5% reduction per position.

The winners of the Super Series will be determined by the sum of the best 2 scores for sprint distance and the best 2 scores for standard distance for each athlete. The winners of the National Championships will be determined by the placing in the relevant distance race.

Scoring will be based off the 30th percentile with males and females scored separately.

The Vodafone National Series contains 19 Sprint Distance, 7 Standard Distance and 3 Middle Distance Races. Athletes are required to score in 1 sprint, 1 standard and 2 others to be eligible for Vodafone National Series Age Group Awards.

Races are spread, as best possible, across the country to provide equal opportunity for triathletes across the island of Ireland. There are 7 races located in Leinster, 7 in Connacht, 7 in Munster and 8 in Ulster. Unfortunately, as is the case every year, a number of quality races will have missed out due to date clashes, locations, spread and so on.

    Is it a choice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,359 ✭✭✭peter kern

    Is it a choice?
you dont have to race super six races there is plenty of other races

you could apply for a british triathlon license if you dont want to be a cat 1 athelte
or add a middle name if you apply for license.
in short there is ways around.

The post above says cat 1 athletes will not be eligible for national series races - does this mean you won't be allowed to enter NS races? Or does it mean you can race but not score points?

Peter - would a British licence cover me to race here?

I have checked with TI and cat 1 can race NS races but won't be given any points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,359 ✭✭✭peter kern

I understand you can race any race but you do not get points for NS or count for age group prices.only overall prices ( maybe somebody can comment on that )

yes you can race in ireland with the license of an Itu affiliated countrie 's license
there is drawbacks and i DO NOT recommend it
you do not count for nat series. club insurnace etc. but its not a monopoly they have for people doing races in ireland if you really dont like something.

you can also buy a one day licence than you are not a cat one athelte either at least you were never allowd to count for nat sereis if you did not have a full ti license )
