So I got a visit from the tv licence inspector, he said he'd call back in January to see if I got a licence. Thing is I'm moving house before then. What's the dealy with this? Will the responsibility be passed on to the next tenants?

Yes. The licence is for the household - it doesn't follow you when you move. So purely from a practical/financial point of view, it's probably not worth your while buying a licence now if you are moving out in a month's time.

Thanks, it was some Chinese lad on his list before me. I might leave a warning for the next tenants just to be nice.

Does he have your name? Can't see why they wouldn't proceed with a prosecution...

you bring your tv license with you. Simply change the address on it online. you'll have to get one for the new gaff anyway.

So what's the truth here? I don't have a tv licence so I can't transfer it to my new home. When he calls to the door in January I wont be there to answer him.

you'll need to buy one for your new house or they'll just be out to you again. Likely to be less pleased.

i wouldn't worry about buying one until you move.
But you can change addresses, you cannot change the name on the tv license until renewal time.

No, he asked was 'Chinese sounding name' living there. They'll probably never find Chinese man so I don't think they'll find me either.

They won't. People saying you'll need one for your new place are talking in general terms of every place needs to have a tv licence (provided you can receive a tv signal, but soon to be changed I think). You obviously have no wish to ever get a tv licence so you'll just start at square 1 again if they call to your new place and ask to see your tv licence for that place.
