Can't get mail or update apps since downloading IOS8.1

I'm always hesitant to update the software on my apple devices until the bugs are worked out (I think Apple is becoming more like Microsoft ie publish software and let the users find the bugs). However I thought I'd now be safe updating my iPhone 5 and ipad3 to 8.1 as its been out a while. Trouble is, I can't get emails…

I'm always hesitant to update the software on my apple devices until the bugs are worked out (I think Apple is becoming more like Microsoft ie publish software and let the users find the bugs). However I thought I'd now be safe updating my iPhone 5 and ipad3 to 8.1 as its been out a while. Trouble is, I can't get emails while I'm out and about on 3G (can get them when on wifi at home) and I can't update the apps on my iPad from the App Store.

Is there a quick fix for this as I've done the usual, ie turned devices off completely and rebooted them, checked the mail settings etc.

Try resetting network settings, bear in mind though that all wifi passwords will be lost.
