Similar Programs to Layout

I downloaded Sketchup, along with all the trialware some time ago. I became particularly fond of the Layout Program, where you could draw plans of things. I'm just wondering is there any free versions on programs that are similar to it, or will I have to go back to my pencil and paper? Thanks

I don't know anything about Sketchup but Draftsight is a free 2D CAd program similar to AutoCAD.
