Brake Pads for a Defy 3 with Tektro TK-R312 calipers

    Hi,

I know very little about brake pads. I have a giant defy 3 which I use to commute daily to work in (about 25km round trip). My brake pads look like they are nearly due a replacement but I don't know what type of pads I should be getting. From what I can see the ones installed are one piece but I don't know for sure - apparently they are Tektro TK-R312 calipers with the stock pads installed.

Should I be getting a shimano brake shoe set and then using cartridges in the future (at least I think I can install cartridges then) or should I be getting some one piece pads?

I was thinking that I should be getting Kool Stop Salmon or Swissstop pads to get better performance (especially when wet) to get me to summer as I see them recommended here a lot. I cycle right through Dublin city so good brakes would be useful but they would need to have some durability (~6 months).

Can anyone point me to exactly which type I should be looking at or some advice?

    Thanks for any help/advice.

Yep. Get the cartridge shoes and the koolstop salmon pads. I've found these to be very gentle on rims while the black compound would wear rims much faster.
