Getting a refund on a Postal Order? Parcel Motel disaster.

A friend of mine and I recently bought an item on adverts.ie (a laptop). The seller seemed to be a bit of a hopeless case as is my friend who bought from her so he asked me to handle it though Parcel Motel.

The seller did not have a box to send us the laptop in that he originally wanted us to collect which was impossible as we are over 200 miles apart. Also he did not take paypal. Anyway we arranged upon my friends insistence to buy the laptop, I told him no paypal walk away.

He got a Postal Order to the guy and I organised an old laptop box with bubblewrap etc. and we arranged to send it to a Parcel Motel location in Dublin.

Ten days after sending the box and postal order therein it eventually got into this guys locker. The stupid idiot then did not pick it up and after spending 48 hours nightline removed it back to the depot, a few days later the guy went to the nightline depot for to collect it and they couldn't locate it for him.

It is now 3 weeks later and the guy still hasn't received the package or payment from us.

I want Parcel Motel to now return it back to myself. What I really want to know is even though this Postal Order is made payable to "Mr. John Smith" can I cash it back as I was the guy who originally got it with my friends money. I still have the receipt of it.

Finally I'd like to point out that using Parcel Motel to send a parcel is a pure joke as they have the worst service and using them to receive a parcel in Dublin in the run-up to Christmas seems equally bad.

I'm sure I have got a refund on a postal order before, if you have got the postal order back and the receipt then I'm sure they refund you.

But did Parcel Motel not do everything correctly? and only when it wasn't collected things went wrong.

Was there a return address - any other identifying marks.
