Why do some people listen to/watch presenters they hate?

Was reading through that Ray Darcy Show Thread in the Radio Forum and it just seems to be full of people who hate him but yet still listen to him and complain about every little thing he says, also I've seen other posters continually complain about other TV/Radio personality's, it's something I don't understand, if someone annoys me I'll do my best to avoid having to listen them otherwise I'd lose my mind completely or for some people is it like what Mrs. Doyle said "Maybe I like the misery" (this is AH after all some I have shoehorn a Father Ted reference in there)

BTW - I'm indifferent to Darcy, I'm just curious as to why people do this in general.

I don't get it either, OP. Change the channel.

Btw, Father Ted wasn't that great either.

Shared offices. Shared houses. Public spaces with the radio playing. Calling in to your mother's gaff for 20 mins. Listening to a show to for a while to see if you like it and finding that it's utter sh1te. There's loads of reasons.

A lot of people (like myself) were forced to listen to Ray Darcy in work.

Thankfully in my current job no radio is on and it's a complete joy.

People don't like being happy so they put themselves through torture on purpose.

"Dung" is a bit harsh, they both have good aspects.

    But MBB is better.

Internet forums are a coping mechanism for their personal dissatisfaction and insecurity. Why deal with reality when you can lash out at Ray D'arcy?

I'm a van driver. The radio is entirely mine. If I had to work in a communal setting, and be subjected daily to the likes of D'Arcy or Duffy or Prenderville or Dempsey, I think I'd go completely off my fukking game.

    From Howard Sterns film, Private Parts;

Researcher: The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes.

Pig Vomit: How can that be?

Researcher: Answer most commonly given? "I want to see what he'll say next."

Pig Vomit: Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?

Researcher: Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.

Pig Vomit: But... if they hate him, why do they listen?

Researcher: Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."

I'll watch clips of right wing crazies on youtube. It's for a laugh.

I don't listen to Irish radio though

I listen to Sean moncrieff on newstalk, but if I ever met him out on the beer it probably wouldn't work out so good for Sean, his nasal voice and smartarsery make me want to smack the head off him.I tune in because of the lunatics he interviews
