Did anyone else hear the Head of the NUJ on with Matt Cooper this evening.

He said Fine Gael backer Denis o Brien is in full control of INMs editorials and is making all the decisions.

How can this man be allowed control so much of Irelands media, after the revelations about this man and fine gael in The Moriarty Tribunal?

That's why the exposé is on Today FM...

I do agree though there's way too much consolidation allowed.

UTV Media and Communicorp own too much of the broadcast sector at this stage.

New ownership rules proposed, if they come in, will probably require a divestment of something from his empire as as low as 10% will be considered as exerting control.

Will these be brought in by the Government?

If so I don't hold out much hope. He is one of fine Gaels biggest financial backers, and is after appointing Brian cowen to the board of Topaz.

    He's political clout is massive!

Rules will not be enforced retrospectivly

What exactly happened with Sam Smyth leaving today fm? He was definitely not a fan of O'Brien.

All Irish media has been filtered and manipulated for quite a while already.

I've noticed recently how Matt Cooper has had to qualify a lot of his items by saying DOB has a stake in such and such. So many conflicts of interest are highly compromising.

Department of Communications is Labour, not FG. Really depends what power plays are going on.

He has declared the conflict not hiding it. Paints a better picture

He controls the media, controls the Government, therefore can control the country. A very, very dangerous road this country is going down.

Frank Flannery has been popping up all over INM media in the past week in a doomed attempt to rehabilitate the man as some kind of political guru.
