I have never used ebay before. Has anyone bought a large item like a 2000 gal slurry spreader off eBay. How does the money transaction work and is it safe? Is there an inspection time before you accept or reject the item veen tho you have paid for the item?

I definitely wouldn't pay the full price over eBay /PayPal, just a deposit at most. 1stly because PayPal fees are quite high, 5 or 7% of the money you transfer I think, and then because PayPal and eBay are far from fool proof. I've bought afew cars and other things though eBay from the UK, I normally just pay the deposit and then head over to view the item, and either have a bank draft (assuming the seller ok with it), or withdraw the cash after I have seen/bought whatever. I've yet to have a sale which I've backed out of, say where the seller clearly lied in the eBay ad, if I did I would have no prbs either haggling with them, or backing out of the sale and opening a PayPal dispute to get back my deposit. Would be very annoying if I'd flew to the UK for this to happen though.

If it's within Ireland, and it's expensive, surely it's more sensible to arrange a viewing of the item before even putting down a deposit on it?

(I've no knowledge of the farming world, I'm just thinking if I was buying a car on eBay, much like DoneDeal, Adverts, CarZone, etc. I wouldn't be paying anything in advance of seeing the car).

If you pay me €1,000 deposit and I withdraw the money from my account immediately (and leave my account permanently empty from then on), as far as I know, Paypal can't get your money back, as they can only really take it back from the account it was sent to (and it would have already been withdrawn, so..).

I could be wrong on that, but I'm fairly sure that's how that works (hence it being easy to con people in different countries, as you withdraw the money and they're none the wiser until an empty box comes in the post without the item they paid for). They lodge a complaint, but Paypal can't help as the other person has cleaned out his account..

I knew they were a legitimate company around 1400 delivered to farm in Kerry.

I bought a few yokes blind off eBay UK a few years ago when euro n sterling were nearly the same. Mini digger ,dumper etc
They all worked out OK , but were all off sellers with good feedback. Get price for shipping fee first tho ,u might get a shock!
