Their pokey enough for normal city driving. Wouldn't fancy driving Dublin to Cork in one though.

I've one cheap to run and very reliable but it's as dead as a door nail. Also when other drivers see a yaris they want you off the road.

1.0L Yaris is nippy enough in the low end. Great around the town and very economical below 100km/h. Beyond that, forget it. I've driven both the old and new body, old body (Up to 2005) is a far better engine in my opinion. Its a run around car, nothing more. T-Sport is a different kettle of fish and good craic altogether!

Hi Craggle, I've a yaris and its very good the best on the road despite low engine power its handy and economical on petrol. For the driving I do its handy but I myself would prefer bigger engine and maybe a diesel rather than petrol if were to upgrade to another yaris or an auris instead. I've had no major issues other than what I brought on myself or potholes that cause a bearing issue and the odd scratch. The car has never let me down its over 10 years old. I learnt to drive in it and have run it to the ground, and race the engine. It has done better in an NCT than a 2010 Nissan modern car.

I've been doing my research recently and maybe have a read of this article. http://www.independent.ie/yaris/petrol

I'd suggest the 1.3 yaris for the petrol, 1.4 for the auris diesel. You can get the 1.4 diesel in the yaris as well. Auris has basic model with 1.3 petrol.

A lot depends on the driving you do?

thanks for the replies. i live in a rural area so it sounds like the yaris is more of a town car and not too practical for the country roads and big distances i do. might have a look at the auris instead, doesnt seem to be a big price difference between the 1.3 yaris and the auris so for a slightly bigger car that might be a better option

If you can find one, the new body diesel Yaris (2007 onwards I think?) is a cracking car.

I drive country roads and have the 1.0 L petrol its ok and I do town driving as well. Ya i'd be the same about the 2007 or 2009 onwards be grand. The auris be a slightly bigger car than the yaris depending which yaris model you go for if its a newer version. Older ones the 1.3 L are automatics and petrol and the ones that are newer ones you have the choice of a 1.3 petrol or 1.4 diesel for yaris or auris.

I love Toyota Yaris. I had a 2000 1L petrol one that I bought new & finally replaced last May, with a brand new 1.4L diesel one. I actually miss the old one, but still like the diesel

How do you find driving the yaris with the 1.4L Diesel compared to the 1L?

For myself, its a world of difference. The 1.4 Diesel actually has some grunt and is very economical on motorway runs. Great car, can't recommend them enough really.

Its good & very economical, but so was the previous car.

The proof of the pudding comes in 10 years time I reckon - the old Yaris only once failed an NCT and that was for a loose nut on an exhaust bracket (it still irks me that the inspector didnt just pull out a spanner & tighten it for me). Bear in mind that I am not fit for much more than filling a car with fuel & changing a flat tyre. That 2000 Yaris was the most reliabel car I ever owned.

When I got the new car I handed the old one to my brother in law, and he thinks it is the best car he has ever owned (even at 14 years old); he has owned dozens of cars over the years, but admittedly he tends to drive sub €1K bangers

He visited us at Christmas, and I got to take the old faithful out a few times for nostalgia's sake :)
