today i was out on my bike and their was a lot of noise from the rear wheel (fulcrum 4 ).noise was greatest when i got off bike and put weight on it whilst moving it around. when i got home i put bike on the stand and found that their was a fair bit of play in the wheel and also a lot of play in the cassette, are these issues easily remedied ? also what sort of distance should you get out of these wheels before they need to be replaced ? thanks guys

Bring it to lbs, probably just new bearings needed which isn't that expensive.

Personally I wouldn't do much more riding if the wheel is as bad as you describe, you might damage it beyond repair which would work out quite expensive to rebuild.
Only real way to see how much wear there is to remove the cassette, pull the hub apart & check the ball bearings, cups & cones for wear & pitting.
Now would also be a good time to change the gearing on the cassette if you didn't like the current setup.
Sounds like you do a lot of mileage so I'd probably service the front wheel as well.
