The Irish Times, the home of hysterical brow-beating feminist types, has had a couple of articles in the last few days lambasting Hozier for what they see as a hypocrisy (because of his lyrics) and misogyny after his performance at the Victoria's Secret fashion show a few days ago.

There's also some criticism being levelled at him for getting paid to pretty much advertise a product. Sellout!

More than a feminist furore over Hozier’s appearance at Victoria’s Secret fashion show

This week, I thought I’d write about the massive furore concerning Hozier’s appearance at an event that, in 2003, the US National Organisation of Women described as a “soft-core porn infomercial”.

Offering reminders of Robin Thicke in that notorious video for Blurred Lines, the Bray star performed his tune fully clothed while various young models pranced around in their undies. Why wasn’t Hozier in his undies? Why wasn’t Ed Sheeran in his undies?

True, the onanists who jiggle along to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show are not crying out for glimpses of the chaps’ tighty whities. All the more reason to interrupt their rhythm, surely. Oh, the hairy, sub-folk warbler was going to be in some metaphorical soup for this.

Well, what do you know? In the hours following Hozier’s appearance at Earls Court, furore came there almost none. Crickets echoed through Twitter Gulch. The tabloids made Sid James faces and cackled about what lucky boys the lads were. It seemed as if porn culture really had triumphed.

    ...

Hozier’s secret: no way to get under our skin

    “Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
    Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life”

Good god, Hozier. What were you thinking?

What were you thinking when Victoria’s Secret called up and asked you to perform at the company’s notorious semi-naked extravaganza?
We had come to love you, Hozier. We’re even on first-name terms these days. We had come to love you and your filleting of religion.

We had come to love you and your steadfast support of difference. We saluted your penetration of the more conservative markets - here and in the US - with your rapier lyrics.

    ...

I haven't checked, but I would put a lot of money on Una Mullally also having some sort of shrill, disapproving reaction to it. Maybe 3 articles saying the exact same thing is too much for the IT though.

Feminists... I'm getting pretty tired of your sh!t.

He should have changed his name to Hosiery; no issue then.

Women choose to dress up in lingerie. A man turns up at event and he hates women or something.

    Mental, just mental.

Because it's a women's lingerie show. How stupid is this woman?

The Daily mail is being run a close second by the Indo these days.

Could have been worse. He could have said they looked sexy in the knickers lingerie.

Sold to objectified women for the sexual pleasure of their domineering husbands and boyfriends /s

This is the problem with a lot of 'feminists'.. they refuse to accept that other women are able to think and act for themselves, and expect them all to speak with one voice... which is fairly ironic really.

I think Taylor Swift also performed on the show. Did she wear lingerie?

I'm doing a Google image search as we speak.

    ..for science.

Yup, they don't speak for me. Also, I don't mean men agreeing with moderate feminist views, but when men are really hardline feminist (like Donald Clarke is being here) I find it strange. Strikes me as trying to be a hit with the ladies.

Also, a knickers and bras show is NOT misogyny!

Bizarre. The weird thing about women I've found is that they wear these kinds of things primarily for themselves (and no, I don't understand).

It's written by a man, and that just makes it that little bit better lmao

I sort of laugh nowadays when i see some journalist proclaim that the feminists are angry over something. The media are the chief protagonists at riling people up over these issues. Who cares if the feminists are upset with hozier.

I wouldn't click into the article either. More people should do the same. It would kill off silly articles like these if nobody bothered reading them.

I only heard of this guy a few days ago but his music isn't especially sexy, is it? I'd want my soft-core porn infomercials to have something like Marvin Gaye, not some guy from Bray.

Hosier under fire from feminists!!! Lmao. You couldn't make this **** up. They got something against stocking and tights now?

Not the article that was written earlier in the week.

    They're both ridiculous anyway.

The only thing surprising me is that neither of the articles in the OP were penned by Una Mulally. I'm sure she'll have something ready for tomorrow where she attempts to link his appearance at the show to subjugation of wimmins.

Hozier is not under fire from feminists, he is under fire from misguided and clueless people who have been labelled as feminist. Either the definition of feminist is incredibly broad and vague or else they are being incorrectly labelled.

    Born with a penis?

You are to blame: [ insert problem here.]

    Rabble rabble rabble

These people are taking away from real issues that concern the advancement of women in the world.

The woman who wrote this article ago also wrote one 3 weeks celebrating how well Anne Summers Irish operation has been doing since it opened...... hypocrisy much?

A man wrote this one, a woman wrote a piece on the same thing a few days ago though.

This is what I find particularly weird about men supporting militant feminism - it's blatantly hostile towards them.

Jesus I just assumed it was the same article. Did the IT really feel a second one was necessary?

Pretty sure the y self identify as feminists. Clarke certainly did a while ago in his myopic gamers gate article.

If Hozier hadn't of banged on about being against misogyny and asking why he grew up in a misogynistic society in a press interview to score points then this article would have never happened. He can't have his cake and eat it, pretty much like those models.
