Stolen Car - Lapsed Insurance

Hi all, i've searched through threads and looking for some advice.
A family member's car was stolen last night from outside her home. Her house had been broken into last weekend. She realised today that her spare key had been stolen.

To make matters worse, she has been ill and away from her home alot. She realises that the car insurance that she had and paid in full with the same brokers for the past 10 years lapsed 3 weeks ago.

Obviously this is a nightmare scenario for her. Does anybody have any advice as to what she can do/is there any possible recourse with the insurance company?

    Thanks....

There's no grace period with motor insurance so she is basically screwed. But talk to the broker in case they renewed on her behalf.

So to be clear the car has no insurance? Im afraid there is nothing she can do if the car is uninsured. What sort of car is it? If she is lucky its recovered. Talk to her broker, he may have automatically insured the car when it was due. Check her post as well.

Prob worth calling the broker to see if they renewed the policy with the ins co,but to be honest I wouldn't hold out too much hope with it. You can't really expect the ins co to insure it without instruction from either the broker or your family member. Good luck and I hope that it wasn't a very expensive motor.
