    Hey guys,

Wife rang last night to say she opened bonnet to put water in and out the bonnet back down but one of catches wouldn't catch.

She checked the lever in the car and it had "fallen forward" as in it was in the position it is when you pull it forward, and pushing it back just resulted in it springing forward again.

She came out this morning to send me a picture and when she pressed down on the bonnet it caught this time, however she then opened it again to check if it had been magically fixed and now we're back to the intial situation.

Problem is I live in London for work and she is very apprehensive about going to an Indy garage due to getting extremely ripped off before, and is saying she's headed to main dealer that knows her family. Obviously I don't that as the car is clearly not worth it.

Any idea of the fault here and cost? I'll try sort somebody to Fix it from here, she's based in Meath tho and now doesn't want to drive it in case the bonnet opens when she's driving

Give the latch and the end of the cable (bonnet end) a drop of oil, and make sure the lever goes back into position after its pulled.
You could always give the bonnet a little lift after closing it to make sure its closed.

Any car like that I'd be just giving the bonnet a firm shove closed, ie not dropping it gently then pushing it closed.

Thanks colm, I've got a family member on the way over to have a look, normally she does drop it shut. Hopefully it'll get sorted with some intervention today, not what I need to try get fixed on Xmas eve!

It's a common issue in E11 corollas (actually I have the same for years). Bonnet release cable is stuck inside its housing (well, whatever it's called).

Ideal solution is to take it out (at least one end), put a bit of oil ito it and move cable a number of times making sure it moves freely.

But I'm too lazy - I'm just pulling a handle VERY gently - immediately stopping while bonnet's unlocked.
