I was just wondering if its legal to have a siren to a push bike. The bike will be used for Search and Resuce (SAR) taskings and missions to search a city or the banks of the river and the siren woundnt be miss used. the bike also has refelectors, white and red lights to the front and back.
    Thanks

What would be the point of the siren?

Luring men to their deaths from a push bike? I do think that that is illegal.

Oh. Wait. Different kind of Siren.

So sirens seem to be OK for bikes on the same basis as they are for cars i.e. it depends on whether you're in one of the organizations mentioned above.

Also it seems I am not allowed fit a gong to my bicycle :(

Is this a serious question..?? How fast do you expect to be going that you think you need a siren on a bicycle..?! And if you're involved in Search & Rescue and missing persons search, do you not think low key is better than announcing your presence to everyone? Any group that feels they need to announce themselves on a search is one to avoid in my book...whatever about the legalities, think carefully about the image you are trying to portray before doing it or you could end up being viewed quite negatively by many of the other voluntaries.

This wouldn't happen to be in Cork by any chance would it...?

Head on over to the motors forum, I think most would see it as an excellent idea!

Probably not, given the number of pedestrians who have their ears plugged in as they wander along !!

Unfortunately the Act doesn't define "gong". I wonder what the story is with cymbals and related percussion instruments. If in doubt, go for a samba whistle.

Depends on the size of the bell.
