Is Philosophy/Psychology a Really Odd Combition?

Okay so I want to study either philosophy or psychology at third level next year. However, whenever I mention doing both of these subjects together I don't get great responses.

I personally would rather study philosophy but a career as a psychologist sounds rather appealing to me.

Would either course be better with English?

    Thanks!

Not odd at all. I know of several doing "untraditional" combinations - Maths/Music, History/Greek, etc. I did Philosophy through TSM and I don't think there's a subject that isn't improved by combining it with philosophy.

As an aside, almost every psychology student I've spoken to mentions the need to do further studies in order to get employed.

+1 re. it not being that weird (personally maths + music is the one I'd consider the weirdest), and I've also heard that even psychology on its own doesn't lead to a career as a psychologist.

Considering that psychology's roots are in philosophy, it is not an odd combination at all. You will most likely have some philosophy modules as part of psychology anyway. But as others have said, a degree in psychology alone will not qualify you to work as a psychologist.
