There is no upgrade from 4300 K. It's the best option for light output and being easy on your eyes: it's the closest to natural daylight. 5000 or 6000 K will be a bit whiter, but also slightly less bright. If you think your lights are underperforming, check that the headlamp lenses are in good condition. You might also need the alignment checked.

I think they might be just old D3S's bulbs in the car 2-3 years and are just faded maybe? Iv seen A6's the same as mine with great coverage on the road with there headlights.... Iv ordered the new set went for 5000k so fingers crossed... And the headlights are also auto alignment and seem totally balanced?...

There's an automatic levelling system fitted on the headlamps but that's just to keep the aim level when the suspension is loaded up. It still depends on the headlamps being correctly aligned to begin with.

AFAIK HID bulbs don't fade with time, they just go pop when their time is up.

Most of the time when people complain about poor headlight performance it's because the lenses are etched or the alignment is off.

Alignment on HID equipped cars needs VAG diagnostics so it might not be that cheap. It'll need to go to a dealer or a competent indy.

My experience with HID bulbs on the factory fitted xenons on my Allroad is that they tend to lose their luminosity over time rather than pop. I'm on my third set of bulbs at 230k miles. Both times I replaced the bulbs, I noticed a considerable improvement in light output.

The only pain is getting at the lights to replace the bulbs!

You may need to remove bits of the air intake to get clear access on one side. It's not straight forward, but doable.
