I know you can get 'special' bathroom wallpaper but has anyone papered their bathroom with ordinary wallpaper?

Wouldn't recommend it. As soon as the bathroom starts steaming up, the paper'll start coming away from the walls.

I wallpapered our bathroom. A friend told me he'd done it before in client's bathrooms and it was fine. He suggested i varnished the area around the bath and sink. I decided to give it a go and strip it if it didn't work and tile.

I used water based varnish around the bath and sink area because the solvent based ones had a yellow-tinge to it. The area around the bath didn't last, which i expected, but the area around the sink, toilet etc is perfect 3 years on.

But you just admitted the area around the bath didn't last?

    Thanks for the replies.
I wouldn't paper around the bath/shower anyways, just on the other walls.

Not recommended. I had a bad experience with regular wallpapers in my bathroom. It started coming away from the walls after few months. So don't go for that mate.
